Popular media is rife with commodified portrayals of romance and sexuality, all of which plays a large role in constructing love and sex as compulsory aspects of the human experience. Through these messages, human experience becomes understood as intrinsically alloromantic and allosexual, which can pose challenges to those whose experiences lean towards aromanticism and/or asexuality. In this session, ASPEC individuals will describe their experiences with navigating alloromantic and allosexual messaging in media while developing ASPEC identity.
