The gender binary remains central to our society’s collective understandings of human diversity along the lines of gender and sex. While the focus on “male” and “female” provides little to no guidance for, and even resistance to, gender-diverse experiences, the ambiguity of gender diversity beyond the binary can also leave room for creativity and exploration. In this session, a panel of gender-diverse individuals will share their experiences, both challenging and joyful, in navigating gender-diverse identity in a binary world. The discussion will be loosely based on themes from the graphic novel, “Gender Queer,” by Maia Kobabe.
